I’ve known of mortality
For most of my life.
Like someone who
Knows about a foreign country.
It’s there,
But never on my mind.
I’ve treated mortality
Like every young person does.
Reckless and arrogant,
I’ve considered myself invincible.
But one reminder
Of all my misconceptions
Is lying in a hospital bed
Not far from my home
Now, I’m helpless to ignore it.
And all I wish
Is that she didn’t have to face it.
That I didn’t have to face it.
Tonight is for us.
We’ll blur the lines
Until we can’t define
Where your skin ends
And mine starts.
The songs of the night
Will be sung by the softest pleasures.
Our warmth
And our desire
Make for the sweetest dance.
Your touch sends me
To the best places
Where we are infinite.
Time will let us be,
And the world will be ours.
But tonight,
It’s just you and me.
Alone in our bliss.
Slow down although it seems that time is running out. This is a show-down. For every breath you take is a shadow of doubt

A page from an early, pre-publication copy of Stephen King’s novel, The Shining. At the bottom of the page are Kubrick’s handwritten notes as he reacts to the concept of “REDRUM” spelling “MURDER” in reverse.
I LOVE Stephen King
